The University of Illinois system takes its place as one of six finalists for the Innovation & Economic Prosperity (IEP) University Awards handed out to institutions in recognition of their strong commitment to economic engagement. These awards are hosted by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU).
“The six institutions that are finalists for the 2015 APLU Innovation & Economic Prosperity University Awards have all demonstrated a clear commitment to economic engagement and have followed through by delivering results. APLU applauds them and looks forward to sharing their good work with other institutions as a resource for all public research universities to expand their economic engagement activities and help grow their regional economies,” said APLU President Peter McPherson.
The University of Illlinois system is under special consideration for the ‘Best in Innovation’ category due to its efforts in promoting and supporting the proof-of concept programs, The Chancellors Innovation Fund and The Illinois Proof-of-Concept. These programs support researchers as they translate promising discoveries made in the laboratory into commercial products for society’s marketplace.
The winner of the Innovation & Economic Prosperity (IEP) University Award will be announced on November 17th, 2015 at the APLU’s annual meeting in Indianapolis. The other finalists include: Auburn University, Clemson University, Ohio University, University of Maryland, and University of Minnesota. Please join us in celebrating the hard work these institutions have put into strengthening the economic development of their regions, states, and nations.
