About
Melissa Maderia joined the Office of Technology Management at UIC in November 2016. Melissa is responsible for managing a portfolio of medical-related technologies, including evaluation, patenting, marketing, and licensing activities. She works closely with faculty in the College of Medicine. She currently promotes UIC technologies to attract industry partners for further development and commercialization.
Melissa completed her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Texas A&M University in 2000. She continued from there to the University of Minnesota for a post-doctoral fellowship in biochemistry and molecular biology and then to the National Cancer Institute for a second post-doctoral fellowship in the Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry (now called the Chemical Biology Laboratory). Deciding to transition from the lab to a career in technology transfer, Melissa joined the Technology Transfer Center at the National Cancer Institute (NCI-TTC) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in November 2005 as a Technology Transfer Specialist. Dr. Maderia completed her Masters in Management with Marketing in 2011 and an MBA in 2013 from University of Maryland University College.
